On and on the river flow...... @ E.Q. Warehouse 23/03/02

We've seen Undertow under a tree, on a hill,in a squat and in the Old Drome, now we thought it was time to see them in the much talked about E.Q. Warehouse. We jumped in the motor and headed for Hackney and of course, got duly lost. After much faffing about and driving up and down Waterden road, we found a very modest looking E.Q. Warehouse. We we greeted by an alarmingly friendly security guard who pointed us down a chrome tunnel with a flickering strip light straight down the middle, possibly the nicest touch I've seen in a club.

The first thing I noticed about the place was how clean it was. There wasn't any rubbish about and I felty guilty about chucking my fag butts on the floor, I put all my empty cans back on the bar all night! The sound system in the main room was QUALITY. There was a couple of in-house speaker-stacks and of course the Undertow rig, together sounding incredible - loud and clear but not painful, you could have a conversation in the same room. George was mixing when we got there, setting the standard for the rest of night - really banging and spot-on mixing.

We took a walk round the corner and found the chillout. The system in here was again solid accompanied with a good selection of DJs throughout the night. The chillout itself looked like the Diner out of Home and Away, plush with a load of diner-style tables and benches to sit on aswell as an area with matresses etc... to flake out on. The drinks were standard London club prices, bit pricey if you ask me but it seemes to be standard issue now, although they did seem to have quite a good selection.

Back to the main room and things are really kickin off. A shit load more peole have turned out and Jary was up on the decks. The vibe was ultra-happy and the u.v decor and wicked lights set the scene nicely. All of the people working there were helpful and friendly and all the ameneties were in good nick, except for the lack of toilet roll in the gents, hey-ho. Most of the ravers had gone for the fluoro look, shin-pad t-shirts seemed to be the order of the day! There was no problem sitting down and chatting to random people and the usual wander round style security guards were nowhere to be seen, very, very relaxed atmosphere.

Boo!

The chill-out itself was wicked and we could have quite happily sat there all night chatting and smoking with various people. Thankfully we managed to get up and take a wobble back to the main room. Juno was playing and she absolutely rocked. Smiles all round and the whole place was jumping, people shouting and whistling, really good to see. Heard some familiar tunes in her set, some new one's too, all totally rockin'. At the back of the room was a stall selling t-shirts and various fluoro bits and pieces, aswell as the juice bar which was had a spread raising money for J-Day.

We had a wicked time at Undertow. The people, the atmosphere, the music everything was spot on. The security were wicked, nice blokes but you know they weren't taking any shit off anyone, yet you could totally relax without having to worry about what you were doing at any time.

All of the walls were fluoro everything and it looked unreal. I heard that Susan does all of the artwork, nice on in that case, its all quality stuff, really original and it all keeps the same Undertow kinda feel to it.

There seems to be a growing number of people who slate the Trance scene for one reason or another, erm sort it out. This is an amazing night. The venue is really clean and well maintained without being poncy and the system in there was amazing, I think most of the guts for it came from the Undertow rig, lovely it was!!

Thanks to Susan and Stelvio for a wicked night, sorry we didn't come and say hello, got a bit too carried away in the chill out room! We'll come along again for sure, keep up the good work.

We met up with a regular party face and headed of the a big ol' squat party in Brentford. Right mission to get there but once we were there oh dear, truned into one of these.
